He is currently running as an independent candidate for CA Insurance Commissioner.

Steve Poizner has had a successful career as a businessman, an inventor of life-saving technology, a volunteer public school teacher, the founder of several non-profit organizations designed to provide better education to disadvantaged students, and as a public servant.

An inventor and entrepreneur, Poizner’s company SnapTrack pioneered technology that allowed GPS receivers to be placed into cellular phones. The life-saving technology is now in more than 2 billion cell phones around the world.

After selling his company, he was selected to serve in the non-partisan White House Fellowship program, where he was appointed Director of Critical Infrastructure Protection in the National Security Council. Beginning work just one week before 9/11, Poizner was tasked with protecting the nation’s network systems and electrical grids against terrorist attacks.

After concluding his service in Washington, D.C., Poizner returned to California where he taught American Government in a disadvantaged high school an experience that he later wrote a book about, called Mt. Pleasant.

Wanting to continue in public service, Poizner ran for the position of Insurance Commissioner, one of California’s eight statewide elective offices. In the end, he earned endorsements of more than 35 major newspapers and won by more than a million votes.

Since his term ended in 2011, Poizner has co-founded EmpoweredU, a mobile learning platform technology company in partnership with UCLA and Creative Artists Agency. After being inducted into the Silicon Valley Engineering Council Hall of Fame in 2014, Poizner established a non-profit organization, Alliance for Southern California Innovation, to help grow the Southern California venture capital and start-up communities in 2017. Poizner additionally joined two university education boards at USC and served as National Co Chairman and California State Chairman to Governor John Kasich of Ohio for Kasich for President.

Now, Steve Poizner is once again running for the CA Insurance Commissioner seat in 2018 as an Independent. He believes there is no room for partisan politics in the important office of Insurance Commissioner. He plans to focus his efforts on tackling insurance fraud, combatting the cyber crime that is threatening our economy, and an intense focus on preparation for and recovery from natural disasters and the insurance issues that play a critical role in protecting and helping California consumers.

Steve and his wife, Carol, currently reside in San Diego where they remain active in their community.
